The RBI or the Reserve Bank of India is probably the oldest bank in India, established in April 1935 under the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934. While the Bank is established with the aim to regulate the issue of bank notes in India, it is the prime government body to manage the credit system of the country. The official website is a treasure for anybody wanting to do research on the monetary system of India, its history and evolution and its relationship with banks in India. The most unique feature of the website is the fact that while there is a section displaying important notifications, press releases, publications and important forms and policy documents, there is also a separate section which offers valuable information to the common man in simple and easy language. The RBI site is a part of their outreach program to the Indian community. The site has a Hindi version too.

There is in the RBI website a section targeted especially towards researchers, from where the latter can have access to all kinds of statistics. Besides, there is also a link to database of Indian Economy. Some of the data available on the site include Weekly Statistical Supplement, Balance of Payments (quarterly), banking statistics and a profile of banks. One of the most important tools on the site are the current rates features on the site, thus including Policy Rates, Reserve Ratios, Exchange Rates, Lending or Deposit Rates and Market Trends. Besides, there are separate links for Financial Market Watch, for bankers, for the common man and a separate section on Right to Information Act.
For the Indian citizen, the RBI offers useful information on RBI regulations, lending rates, service charges and financial agents, among others. The section on financial education is especially targeted towards offering basic money education to children and there fore makes the language especially simple to follow. No wonder it is still the first choice for any source of information on Indian economy, banking and finance.
